What is this appeal for?

OPEN CHANNEL is the Victorian Screen Resource Organisation. We are a not-for-profit organisation delivering services and support programs to assist new and emerging filmmakers to develop skills and produce film, television, video and digital media projects.

We contribute to the development of the Australian Screen Industry by offering up and coming filmmakers a training ground to test their skills, initiate projects, network and learn from experienced screen industry professionals while telling stories of importance about Victorian communities.

How will the funds be used?
OPEN CHANNEL's facilities and services are designed to be accessible to all members of the general public, and for much cheaper access than available elsewhere in the State.

We currently deliver a mixture of free and subsidised service support programs for new filmmakers to develop practitioners, projects, and the independent film industry.

Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth is a recent example of just how powerful filmmaking can be in shifting public attitudes to important issues, and for 35 ears OPEN CHANNEL has supported the making of community driven documentary that has the power to influence positive change.

Donated funds will be used to subsidise program delivery costs and to improve facilities available to all Victorians.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:

Upgrading screen production equipment and training facilities in Shed 4, North Warf Road, Docklands.
Expanding the Docklands facility to create a vibrant filmmaker and artistic meeting place and community.
Subsidising equipment access programs.
Subsidising mentored training programs
