BUY CHRISTMAS CARDS AND SUPPORT COMMUNITY GROUPS
BUSINESSES and individuals wanting to buy their Christmas cards and support community groups raising funds at the same time can now choose from a range of groups at www.ourcommunity.com.au/christmascards.
The site links to dozens of groups that are selling Christmas cards to raise money this year. To find a group to support by ordering cards visit www.ourcommunity.com.au/christmascards.
Dr Rhonda Galbally AO, the CEO of www.ourcommunity.com.au a national resource for community groups, said the list had been compiled after inquiries from business people wanting to buy cards for clients and support community organisations at the same time.
"Millions of dollars are spent on Christmas cards each year, particularly from businesses sending Seasons Greetings to their clients. If a small portion goes to helping community groups raise money it is a win for the group – and the community," Dr Galbally said.
"It's an opportunity for individuals and businesses to consider supporting their favourite community groups through the purchase of Christmas cards. For many groups it is an important annual fundraiser where the money is re-invested back into the community."
The site lists details of community organisations selling cards, their contact details and also (where available) direct links to the group's website for examples of cards and order forms.
"Hopefully buying Christmas cards is a first step in supporting community organisations this Christmas," Dr Galbally said.
The Christmas card list is another feature of the Australian Giving Centre, sponsored by Westpac, which also maintains Australia's only free online donation service. More than 450 community appeals are listed on the www.ourcommunity.com.au/donations site and almost $700,000 has been raised to date. The Australian Giving Centre (www.ourcommunity.com.au/donations) also provides information on where people can donate computers, blood, clothing, furniture, mobile phones as well as their time through volunteering.
