Dr Rhonda Galbally AO, the Chief Executive Officer of ourcommunity.com.au, welcomed the announcement of the Municipal Association of Victoria's Community Groups Insurance Scheme's extension and price freeze.

Dr Galbally also congratulated the State Government for providing leadership and said ourcommunity.com.au, a resource for Australian community and non-profit groups, had been proud to work with the Government and MAV to provide practical risk management assistance for groups.

She said one of the biggest benefits of the scheme was that many Victorian events and festivals were able to go ahead.

"It has been vitally important to offer a lifeline to groups but also to ensure the survival of hundreds of community events and festivals that are the lifeblood of our communities," Dr Galbally said.

"Many of these community events and festivals - whether a Carols by Candlelight, a regional music festival or a potato festival - draw the community together and build a united community.

"Those events and festivals that make up about a third of the groups covered through the scheme are absolutely vital to our towns and suburbs. They help to define local towns and as well as building community spirit, they create financial spin-offs by drawing visitors who spend money and create jobs."
