There are many places to explore how, where and who to volunteer with. Each of the following offers a diversity of opportunities, be they at a local,national level, or even just at home or work - yes, virtual volunteering is also a possibility.

Shop Assistants/ General Duties

Receptionist

Description:
We provide a free and confidential community-based financial counselling service to those assist people with debt/ credits problesm. We are now seeking someone to help us answer phones, filing and possible typing and housekeeping tasks eg purchasing stamps and milk.

Recreation and Host Volunteers
Organisation:
Interchange Southern
Description:
Become matched with a child with a disability and them them in your own home, usually for a day or up to a weekend a month, to give respite for the child's family. Or become a recreation volunteer and go on camps, youth groups or school holiday programs with children with disabilities. Have fun while giving respite to those who need it.

Facilitator

Soft Pathway Inc
Description:
Soft Pathway groups offer a safe, relaxed, confidential environment for sufferers of depression and/or anxiety to share stories, make friends and mutually support each other, gently guided by trained facilitators. The groups are not meant to provide formal therapy of any sort and each person must have there own professional providing that for them; our groups are for support only.

Facilitating a group involves acting in a supportive and encouraging role, listening, becoming a part of the group and guiding when necessary. Other roles are opening and closing venues, leading focused positive group discussions in 2nd half of the meeting, attending and reporting at facilitator meetings and supporting other facilitators.

Marine Radio Officer

Friendly Visitor
Organisation:
Wesley Do Care Southern Region, Inner South Office
Description:
Older people and adults with a disability are linked with volunteers for 1:1 visiting, outings, 1:1 telephone support, group activities, lunches, cinema, telelink friendship and special interest groups. Volunteers provide companionship, share conversation, interest and assist to link isolated people into community life.
Time Required:
1-2 hours a week or fortnight at a time to suit the volunteer and the person they are visiting.

Driver - Tuesday Exercise Program (Highett)
Organisation:
Bentleigh Bayside Community Health Service
Description:
We require a driver to drive a 10 seater bus (only car licence required) to pick up clients up from their homes and taken to an exercise program held at Livingston St, Highett. Police Check and Driver Assessment paid for Health Service.
Time Required:
Pick Up Run will be around 12 noon (depending on number of clients). Return Run will be at 2.00 pm.

Neighbourhood Watch Volunteer

Neighbourhood Watch (NHW)
Description:
NHW is constantly looking for volunteers to co-ordinate a NHW area, to act as secretary, newsletter editor, and treasurer or to deliver NHW newsletters.

From time to time, NHW Police Office at Moorabbin also requires volunteers to work with us sometimes within the Police Complex.

House History Research

  1. Victoria's peak body: The peak body in Victoria for volunteering is Volunteering Victoria.

  2. Volunteer Centres: Volunteering Victoria resources and supports 20 volunteer resource and referral agencies across the state. They provide resources and support people to help you make informed choices about volunteer work, relevant, up-to-date information on volunteer services,and information on involving and managing volunteers.   4. ExperienceBank provides an avenue to use the professional skills of older people to make a difference by being a mentor, a Board member or project adviser for a nonprofit organisation.

  5. The Victorian Volunteer Information Service is a community resource. Trained volunteer information officers assist potential volunteers to access information, clarify areas of interest and discuss volunteer opportunities in Melbourne and country areas of the state. Volunteering Victoria supports and maintains an extensive database of community based not-for-profit organisations that involve volunteers in their activities. Detailed information is kept in regard to the names of organisations, location, contact people, mission statements, job descriptions and any special requirements. If you would like to make an appointment with an Information Officer or locate your closest Volunteer Resource Centre call them on 9642 5266.

  6. Australia's peak body: Australia's national volunteering coordinating body is Volunteering Australia, an organisation that provides resources on volunteering and that hosts GoVolunteer, a free internet advertising service for not-for-profit community organisations looking for volunteers. If you have any difficulty finding a suitable spot at the state level, try the national body, and vice versa.

  7. Virtual volunteering: Virtual volunteering through the volunteer X change allows anybody with an internet connection to volunteer at any time of the day or night, from your desk at home or work. For as little as 30 minutes a day you can contribute your experience and skills to a wide variety of tasks. Your contributions are recorded and can be used as a verification of work experience and skill development.
