Blind Citizens Australia Appeal Blind Citizens Australia Appeal
By: Blind Citizens Australia

What is this appeal for?
To assist blind and vision impaired Australians to achieve equity and equality by empowerment, by promoting positive community attitudes and by striving for high quality and accessible services which meet their needs.

How will these funds be used?
To support our key activities of peer support, information dissemination, individual advocacy, systemic advocacy and consultation.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:
  • Peer support - Maintaining our network of regional and special interest branches. These branches act as local lobby groups and provide opportunities for social interaction and self-help support for blind and vision impaired people.
  • Information dissemination -Providing accurate and timely information to members, blindness agencies and the wider community. Regular tools include BCA News (newsletter), Soundabout (audio magazine) and our webpage www.bca.org.au.
  • Individual advocacy - Assisting blind and vision impaired people who are discriminated against, or receive poor service, due to their disability. BCA assists people in this situation to resolve the difficulty where appropriate. Sometimes redress is sought under anti-discrimination laws.
  • Systemic advocacy - Contributing to the cost of the work BCA undertakes to bring about change in our society to improve the quality of life of blind and vision impaired people.
  • Consultation - Consulting with all levels of government, corporations and community organisations on issues which affect the lives of blind and vision impaired people.
