Carol is a visionary leader who works with innovative people, organisations, systems, leaders and communities to achieve transformative outcomes. She is a woman who has had an impact on all aspects of Australian society through her business achievements and her involvement in one of this country's most diverse portfolios of board appointments.
Carol has played an important and pioneering role in the development of a new type of organisation in Australia - social enterprise. In 1999, she became the founding Chair and lead investor in the establishment of Our Community, Australia's first major private company established not solely for profit, but to enhance the social good. Our Community, of which Carol remains the Chair, is a successful, award-winning enterprise that straddles the corporate and not-for-profit arenas and is transforming the way community and business operate in this country.
Carol's influence has touched all areas of business and community life, with current high-level involvement in a wide variety of organisations. In addition to her ground-breaking work at Our Community, Carol also has high-level involvement in organisations as diverse as Qualitas Property Partners, Yarra Capital Partners, Melbourne Business School, the Australian Innovation Research Centre, Enterprise Melbourne Advisory Board, and Stockland.
Past high-level leadership roles have spanned Business (Industry Superannuation Property Trust, Property Council of Australia, Highpoint Property Group, Anstat, OPSM), Government (VicHealth, Docklands Authority, Future Melbourne Reference Group), the Arts (Comedy Festival, Australian Ballet School, National Gallery of Australia, Melbourne International Arts Festival), Health (Mental Health Research Institute, Baker Institute) and Community (Australian Bush Heritage Fund, Western Chances, Social Ventures Australia).
Carol is passionate about social change, having founded the Trawalla Foundation (a social investment body) and being intimately involved in the formation of the new Australian Women Donors Network.
She is passionate about diversity in business, which she sees as the key to creating high-functioning teams and efficient and creative decision-making processes. She is currently involved in developing high-level solutions to rectify the dearth of women in leadership positions in Australia through her latest venture, Women's Leadership Institute Australia.
Carol has most recently launched a high-profile campaign to boost the number of women recognised through the Australian honours system. As part of this campaign, Carol's Women's Leadership Institute Australia (WLIA), in cooperation with Our Community, has launched a guide: Advancing Women: Women & the Order of Australia.
