What is this appeal for?
What is CERES? CERES is a 'not-for-(financial)-profit' community organisation working towards a vision of sustainability involving profound transformation in people and communities. Transformed from a rubbish dumb 26 years ago, CERES is a 10 acre community environment park on the Merri Creek in the inner-north of Melbourne, Australia. It is a place for community to gather, experiment, learn and celebrate the sustainability journey.

What does CERES do? CERES features environmental education programs delivered to thousands of students a year, adult education programs, permaculture & bushfood nursery, organic market, sustainability catering, cafe & a range of other social enterprises, renewable energy, waste & water demonstration facilities, a range of festivals, events & site groups & space to simply enjoy the company of others amidst fresh air and an atmosphere of hope and passion for life.

How will the funds be used?
Community generosity during last year's appeal assisted us in implementing a range of projects including new waste treatment initiatives, a pilot electric car conversion, the aquaponics system, ongoing environmental education for 65,000 student visits and in partnership with over 400 schools, and the development of the 'CERES Story Exhibition' on display in the reception foyer.

These are just a few of the many 'solution-based' projects at CERES demonstrating direct, immediate and accessible responses to problems including global warming, drought and social disadvantage.

As a not-for-profit community based organisation, CERES remains dependent on and extremely grateful for your support. You can support CERES' work in creating the change today.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:
  • Climate change related initiatives
  • Renovations to the Education Centre to accommodate more community groups and our expanding education programs
  • Developing training packages for electric car conversions
  • Growing social enterprises like Seven Stars
  • Progressing on food exchange networks to improve local food security
