What is this appeal for?

Latest registration figures show the total number of people with diabetes has reached 825,000. For every known case, it is estimated that there is another person undiagnosed, making a total of 1.5 million people affected in Australia.

If the trend continues, Diabetes Australia expects the number to reach 4 million by 2012. Complications of diabetes include increased risk of heart disease and stroke, blindness, kidney failure and limb amputation. At present there is no cure for diabetes.

As the epidemic grows, so do the demands on our support services. That's why your help and support is so important to our organisation - funds raised will enable us to continue to support those living with diabetes and our vital programs.

How will the funds be used?

A vital part of our work is reminding people with diabetes they are not alone. They are part of a team. Our Educators provide important information and support, whether it's about health, diet, exercise, or for the management of blood glucose levels and especially the opportunity to learn, understand and cope with a lifetime of managing diabetes.

Diabetes Australia is the only organisation in Australia caring for all people with diabetes. Diabetes Australia concentrates on four key areas - AWARENESS, RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY.
