Vulcana’s circus workshop and performance projects engage a broad range of community participants and work in partnership with arts and community organisations to create opportunities for cultural expression and community development.
In a safe, playful space we encourage participants to be themselves with joy and push the boundaries of what is achievable as one or in a group.
Vulcana offers:
Flexible and fun, challenging and definitely unique, we are about positive experiences of physicality and creative power. Vulcana encourages diversity and provides safe spaces for disrupting the norm – individuals, families, companies, whole communities have enjoyed the affirmative changes a Vulcana project helps facilitate!
We offer ongoing and short-term workshops, community programs, and innovative dynamic performances, and we work with partners from government to corporations to advocate for positive change – all through the energising thrill and physical exploration of the Circus Arts.
Community Cultural Development Projects
Since 1996 Vulcana has been taking circus workshops to different communities of women and young people. Working in collaboration with community organisations, Vulcana artsworkers use circus as a tool to explore ideas and issues relevant to those participating and to devise a performance piece that reflects this exploration and celebrates the new skills they have learnt. These are developed as both short and long term outreach projects.
Professional Development
Vulcana assists in the provision of Brisbane- based professional development for practitioners of circus and physical theatre. Past projects have provided local emerging performers with master class training in circus and physical theatre.
Performance Projects
Vulcana’s community performance events provide workshop participants with an exciting opportunity to experience all aspects of performance development and production.
The performances are created by the participants with plenty of support and structure provided by highly skilled professional theatre workers, artists, designers, artsworkers, trainers and technicians.
The performances are renowned for being an empowering celebration of the participants’ experience, cultural exchanges between participants and artsworkers, cross-arts collaborations, the innovative use of circus and physical theatre, high production values and inspiring circus skills.
