Kombiz Youth Network began in 1991 as an initiative of local Anglican and Uniting Churches (SPAUMAY).The Ethos of responding to community needs and building authentic relationships among young people continues. Kombiz Youth Network remains committed to community and youth development, with priority for those who are in disadvantaged or other difficult circumstances. We offer relationships, supports, opportunties and services that foster the experience and exploration of personal, community and spiritual development.
Kombiz Youth Network aims to
-Respond effectively, practically and creatively to young people's needs.
-Create connections and build belonging.
-Empower young people to take positive initiatives and develop self-esteem.
-Provide opportunities for safe, affordable recreation for young people.
-Support children and young people through difficult times and big changes.
-Encourage positive relationships with adult role models.
Kombiz Youth Network programs include:
Recreation programs
Impact - Wednesday afternoon youth program providing positive role models and safe, affordable fun for energetic young people in years 5-7.
Friday Night Drop In - More mellow recreation program Friday nights for years 9+.
Girl Zone - A Monday afternoon girls group offering a safe and fun place housing activities to develop self-esteem and social skills.
SAVAGE - Monday afternoon activities just for boys and blokes
The Lounge - Friday evening program for youth specifically in years 7 & 8. A place to reconnect with local friends, have fun and enjoy games and food.
ourspace- Homework, music, friends and support for young people in years 8-12
Personal Development programs
Adventure Camping - Challenging weekends away involving canoeing, white water rafting and rock climbing.
Leadership programs - Generation L camps and leadership activities encouraging participation in active learning for life.
Schools Work
Schools work - Welfare support, transition sessions for grade 6 students preparing for secondary school, resilience sessions including topics such as body image, relationships, managing tough times etc.
R.P.M - Raising Positive Males - Program designed for year 6 boys that builds on and instills positive behavior and life skills
Girl Stuff - A program designed for year 6 girls that encourages young girls to become strong women.
Chaplaincy - Our unique approach to chaplaincy has strong community connections and makes use of our full team who walk alongside young people in schools.
Getting On With It - Prevention and early intervention support for children and young people managing major changes such as grief and loss.
Providing a space for young people displaced by the closure of Albert Park College to reconnect with each other, their community and adults who care. Five new after school programs created in 2007 to meet this need (see below).
