The VMCU aims -

1. To promote, advance, control, manage and foster the game of cricket throughout metropolitan Melbourne;
2. To control and manage and promote either solely, or in conjunction with other cricketing bodies, interstate, or other representative cricket matches throughout metropolitan Melbourne and the visit of cricket teams to or from Melbourne;
3. To promote, foster and preserve the best interests and traditions of the game of cricket;
4. To encourage social intercourse between members of the Union;
5. To engage in such other activities, whether of a like nature or not as may for the time being be permitted by law and determined by the Union.

VMCU is the peak governing body for metropolitan Melbourne community cricket incorporating Regions 9 to 16.

VMCU currently represents 21 affiliated associations to Cricket Victoria from across metropolitan Melbourne.

We conduct representative competitions annually in under 21 (Neil Wright Shield), under 16 (Jim Beitzel Shield & Keith Mackay Cup), under 14 (Russell Allen Shield & Des Nolan Cup), under 12 (Keith Mitchell Shield, Keith Mitchell Cup & Josh Browne Plate). The Neil Wright Shield is competed on various Sundays from November through January while the junior age-groups compete in a carnival conducted over two weeks of mid-January.
