Typhoon Ketsana

On September 24, Typhoon Ketsana hit the Philippines, causing widespread flooding with hundreds of casualties and hundreds of thousands of people homeless and stranded. Up to 80% of metropolitan Manila is submerged and the government has declared the country to be in a "state of calamity," estimating the damage at over $100 million dollars.

Typhoon Ketsana is continuing to rip a path of destruction through South-East Asia with scores more people dying and being left homeless through Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

Samoan Tsunami

A 8.3 magnitude earthquake hit Samoa on the 28 September, triggering a massive tsunami. Villages have been wiped out and scores of people have been killed and injured.

The Logan City Council in Queensland will also be holding a a relief concert in the heart of its Samoan community, home to about 25,000 migrants from the island. the concert will be held on Saturday 18th October and will feature a multicultural local line up. Call 07 3412 4770 for tickets.

Sumatran Earthquake

The Indonesian island of Sumatra has been rocked by a massive earthquake which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale.

Thousands of homes have been lost, hospitals, roads, bridges and water pipes have all been damaged and hundreds of people have been killed.
