What is this appeal for?
Young women often arrive alone as refugees and migrants at the Thai-Burma border. With few legal rights, these women are at real risk of abuse. You can put your tax dollars to work for women by investing in Women's Exchange. Women's Exchange is a simple idea; once a month refugee and migrant women from Burma meet in private, and in safety to learn how to survive away from their homeland.

Where will the money go?

What do you give women escaping rape and slavery in their own lands? For IWDA's local partner on the border, MAP Foundation, the answer is simple: you give women safe space to make vital connections; your gift to IWDA's mid year appeal carves out this space and gives women the tools they need to make a go of it. You are helping to give women the skills to deal with HIV/AIDS and violence against women.

To get these Exchanges together takes time; your gift can help pay a woman to make sure others are able to understand - and use - vital survival kits. ARM (Action Response Mechanism), is one widely used kit which gives ten clear steps for survivors of violence and people supporting them.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:
  • $54 gives a voice - it is the cost of six months translation; Women's Exchange members speak different languages, but face the same dangers.
  • $1227 is a safe place to be - this is the monthly cost of taking 300 Burmese refugee and migrant women to meetings where they are able to safely share their experiences as part of IWDA's Women's Exchange program.
  • $374 supports survivors - it pays for one woman's five day training in a practical, 10 step tool for helping victims of rape living on the Thai-Burma border.
Is this appeal tax deductible? Yes
Will I receive a receipt for my donation? Yes, though it will be delayed as it is sent by International Women's Development Agency (IWDA)
