Lifehouse - A Practical Response to a Need in our Community

What is this appeal for?

Lifehouse Project assists young people gain life skills, parenting skills, housing and employment through the provision of housing, mentoring, programs and grants. Lifehouse Project initiatives promote strong and healthy families and friendships. The mission includes effecting social change to reduce the incidence of homelessness, teenage pregnancy, family breakdown and youth suicide. Lifehouse Project is raising funds to develop programs offered to young women and young parents. Our key programs in 2006 are "Asher Grove", an accomodation service for homeless young mothers and "The Young Parents Mentoring Program".

Asher Grove
Many homeless young parents need supported accommodation to assist them through a transitional phase of their lives. Lifehouse offers practicle, financial ad emotional support to reduce the incidence of youth homelessness and family breakdown. Tenants live at Asher Grove for six months while being mentored to develop independant living skills.

The Young Parents Mentoring Program
This program nurtures caring and supportive friendships between volunteers and young parents in the community. Lifehouse Priject believes young parents benefit from a mentoring relationship that supports and values them. Currently 30 volunteers have been trained to be community mentors. This program reduces isolation and family breakdown.

How will the funds be used?

Funds donated to Lifehouse Project are utilised to fund the training and support of our volunteer mentors. Funds are used to secure accommodation for homeless young parents for six months and offer practical and emotional support whilst engaged in the program.

Girls with a Purpose - a self esteem program for young women.
