Lupus Awareness Appeal
By: Lupus Association of Tasmania inc

What is this appeal for?
Lupus is an incurable, but mostly treatable, autoimmune disease, which can affect all organs of the body, especially kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, and skin. Lupus Association of Tasmania inc. provides visits and support, information and awareness in regards to lupus (SLE) and overlapping autoimmune diseases not only to sufferers, but to families, friends, the general community, and to the medical profession. This is provided free of charge, therefore we rely on subscriptions and a few donations, to cover our costs. We have not been successful in any applications to Federal and State governments for a grant to cover any of these costs, so it all comes from our very small membership base and circle of friends. We answer enquiries from all over the world, and send information to these, free of charge.

How will the funds be used?

Lupustas is a registered charity and is run solely by volunteers, most of whom suffer with lupus and/or related autoimmune diseases. We would like to raise funds to update our office equipment to make is more comfortable and faster for the volunteers to produce our distribution information for education & support, and our quarterly newsletter, and to purchase up-to-date books for the association library..

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:
  • Research funds, which will be used for research into the cause of lupus, and for research into updating ongoing medications for the treatment and management of lupus and associated autoimmune diseases.
  • Equipment and Production costs of pamphlets, newsletters, 'phone calls, and library books
  • Awareness campaigns such as meetings and seminars within the general and medical community.
Is this appeal tax deductible? Yes
Will I receive a receipt for my donation? Yes, though it will be delayed as it is sent by Lupus Association of Tasmania inc
