What is this appeal for?

The Melbourne Zen Hospice is a Public Benevolent Institution providing free community support to Palliative Care patients, their carers and families, across inner suburban Melbourne (encompassing Melbourne, Bayside, Boorondara, Glen Eira, Port Phillip, Stonnington, and Yarra). Depending on individual circumstances, we offer practical support, emotional and spiritual companionship, respite care, and also assist with complementary therapies, including acupuncture, reiki, and guided meditation, all of which are provided free of charge. While our work itself is done on a voluntary basis, we welome financial contributions in order to cover our operating expenses.

How will the funds be used?
All donations received will go to

Covering our basic operating costs (which presently consist primarily of travel and phone expenses)
Expanding our service capacity in order to be able to support more patients (for this a new volunteer training program is being planned for the second half of 2008)
Advancing towards our long-term vision of a physical Melbourne Zen Hospice by 2012.
