Nillumbik Gives - recycling clothes and furniture

Recycling clothes and furniture is a great way of helping out the Nillumbik community. Whether it is your personal clothes or donations of furniture, these donations can make a great difference to an individual or organisation.

The following organisations will accept donations of clothes and furniture:

Brotherhood of St Laurence

How you can donate:
After clearing out your cupboards and wardrobe, why not drop off your unwanted items at a Brotherhood bin, or to your local Brotherhood store during normal trading hours?
What happens with your donation:
The stores sell donated goods, new goods and furniture and are both a destination for the 'bargain hunter' and a valuable community resource where families and individuals can purchase low cost clothing and household items.

For the fashion conscious, the Hunter Gatherer stores stock hand picked vintage garments and our own 'No SweatShop' fashion label, Hunter Gatherer.

All the stores help raise vital funds for the organisation and offer numerous services to the community. These include: Microfinance programs in conjunction with the Bendigo Bank, stocking affordable reconditioned computers from Green PC and a partnership with Moreland Energy Foundation to recondition donated fridges.

Through shopping with us you are also doing your bit for the environment by buying recycled products that would most likely end up in landfill.

EPIC (Education Program for Infants & Children Inc.)

What happens with your donation:
EPIC (Education Program for Infants & Children Inc.) is one of the major providers of specialised teaching and therapy programs for young children with a range of developmental disabilities, particularly Down syndrome & autism.

Aunty B's Opportunity Shop in Chute Street, Diamond Creek helps raise the essential funds to enable the operation of the EPIC Centre.

EPIC has a Van, plus volunteers, who collect items of furniture and other goods which can be sold in the shop. Please call EPIC on 9466 9600 to arrange collection. These are done on Tuesdays and Fridays and it is best to give some notice as they can become very busy at times.

This is a form of recycling which helps EPIC, reduces the demand for raw materials and provides a low cost alternative for low income families in our community.
