Promoting Indigenous Cultural Awareness in Nillumbik Shire

Promoting Indigenous Cultural Awareness in Nillumbik Shire

By: Nillumbik Reconciliation Group

What is this appeal for?

NRG is committed to supporting an Indigenous presence in Nillumbik Shire through community education, networking with other community groups, the placing of cultural markers, acknowledging the Wurundjeri - the traditional owners - and working towards justice and rights for all Indigenous people.

How will the funds be used?

Funds are needed for the employment of Aboriginal Elders in cultural awareness courses and events at local schools and in the community; consultation with Elders and employment of an editor to update and print a new edition of the Wurundjeri Resource Kit; printing and distribution of five newsletters per year.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:

  • Cultural Awareness Courses at local schools: cost per course $1,200
  • Editing and printing the Wurundjeri Resource Kit for use in schools. The kit is also available to members of the community.
  • Production and distribution of newsletters containing articles on Indigenous affairs and information of coming events.
