Purchase a Riding for the Disabled Pony

What is this appeal for?

Pegasus provides therapeutic, recreational and sporting equestrian activities for people with a disability. About 100 people with a disability participate in our programs each week, benefiting from improvements in physical strength, flexibility, postural control, self esteem, confidence and social skills. Our nationally accredited coaches develop individualised programs for each rider, based on their needs and aspirations. Our riders have a wide range of disabilities, but all benefit from the opportunity to work with our horses to improve their independence, confidence and self esteem. Whilst we can provide services for people from 3 - 80 years of age, the majority of our riders are of primary school age.

We have about 20 specially trained horses in our programs. Each of them has been carefully selected and trained for the specialised work that they do at Pegasus. They are much loved by their riders and the 120 or so volunteers per week who help us to deliver our programs.

This appeal is to raise funds for the ongoing feeding and care of our special ponies and horses. Your donation will also allow us to purchase new horses and increase the number of people with a disability that we can assist.

How will the funds be used?
All funds will go towards the care of existing horses in our program and will also allow us to purchase new horses and expand our programs for people with a disability.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:

Care of the existing horses in our programs and purchasing new horses and equipment
This includes purchase costs, vet care, feed, rugs, saddles, bridles and other specially modified riding equipment.
