Information: The Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project is seeking good condition men's clothing for asylum seekers. The types of men's clothing being sought is shirts, t-shirts, pants and shoes.

All clothing goes to asylum seekers living in the community.

Salvos Store

Information: If you have any clothing which  you feel is too good to simply throw away - bring it to your nearest Salvos Store!

Your donation will assist the community by providing reasonably-priced, good-quality used goods and provide free goods to families referred by a welfare officer of The Salvation Army Family Support Services.

Sacred Heart Mission Op Shops

Information: Open seven days a week, from 10am to 4pm, the Op Shops are always on the lookout for donations of saleable stock. A pick-up service is also available, please call the Op shop to arrange.

Our Op Shops rely totally on donated goods and serve three vital purposes. People in need of clothing and other basic items can visit our Crisis Support service and obtain vouchers, at no charge, which can be redeemed at the Op Shops. The income generated by the Op Shops help to fund other Mission services for needy people, particularly Sacred Heart Central, which provides a free, three course lunch to around 400 people every day of the year. People on limited incomes can purchase household goods, clothing and other basic essentials at better than bargain basement prices.

Brotherhood of St Laurence

Information: After clearing out your cupboards and wardrobe, why not drop off your unwanted items at a Brotherhood bin, or to your local Brotherhood store during normal trading hours?

The stores sell donated goods, new goods and furniture and are both a destination for the 'bargain hunter' and a valuable community resource where families and individuals can purchase low cost clothing and household items.

For the fashion conscious, the Hunter Gatherer stores stock handpicked vintage garments and our own 'No SweatShop' fashion label, Hunter Gatherer.

All the stores help raise vital funds for the organisation and offer numerous services to the community. These include: Microfinance programs in conjunction with the Bendigo Bank, stocking affordable reconditioned computers from Green PC and a partnership with Moreland Energy Foundation to recondition donated fridges.

Through shopping with us you are also doing your bit for the environment by buying recycled products that would most likely end up in landfill.

Over 90% of the material in these mobiles and batteries, ie metals and plastics can be extracted and made into new products. MobileMuster is the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry and is a free service to customers and retailers. Mobile Muster recycles all mobile phones, batteries and accessories.

ComputerBank Australia Inc

Information: The Computerbank project was founded and auspiced by the former Computerbank Victoria Inc, now known as Computerbank Australia. It is all about people getting together to form or support organisations that share a common purpose. Organisations and associations resulting from the Computerbank Project aim to collect and then redistribute older donated computer hardware to people who can't otherwise afford the costs associated with computing.

Computerbank branches across Australia are now providing help to low income individuals, families and under-resourced community groups and schools, especially with obtaining computer hardware and training in how to use it.

Werx Foundation - B2C Recyclers Program

Information: The B2C Recyclers Project accepts all forms of IT equipment and IT peripherals regardless of age, specification or working condition and work to prevent these items from entering landfill. B2C Recyclers re-use as much of the materials donated as possible, integrating PC components into refurbished computers. Any donated equipment that cannot be re-used is dismantled into its constituent parts and sent for processing by one of B2C Recyclers' responsible waste partners.

Equipment Recycling Network Inc (ERNInc)

Information: ERNInc is a project based in Maroondah and recycles equipment, including computers, and distributes them to people with disabilities, particularly children, at a nominal cost.

Eligibility: To qualify for a computer the applicant must provide a letter from a doctor, physiotherapist etc. stating the nature of the disability and the benefits which would be attained from access to computing equipment.

Mission Australia - Computer Repair and Trouble Shooting

Information: Computers are donated by companies and members of the general public, refurbished by participants of this Work for the Dole project and then donated to economically disadvantaged groups or individuals in the community. Mission Australia will deliver the computers, assist in the installation and provide basic instruction in how to get started.

Green PC

Information: Green PC is about refurbishing and recycling some of the 200,000 PC's that are no longer useful to government and the private sector each year and providing them to individuals and communities that otherwise will be left behind in the information age. To do this Green PC work in partnership with organisations so the solution is inexpensive and simple. It is environmentally responsible, it has the potential to create hundreds of jobs and skill those who would otherwise be left unemployed, and it bridges the divide that exists between the information rich and information poor.

Green PC is part of "Infoxchange", Australia's strategy to bridge the digital divide. This strategy has a number of community building elements including, empowerment through access to the new technologies, providing sustainable employment and educational opportunities for the longterm unemployed while also addressing

Computer Technologies for School Project

Information: The Computer Technologies for Schools Project provides surplus Commonwealth Government and private sector computers and ICT equipment to schools across Australia to enable students and teachers to better understand new technologies. State and Territory government and non - government school authority committees decide the placement of equipment according to needs based formulas. The Project is managed by a National Project Manager. Contributors make computers and other ICT equipment available through the National Project Manager who arranges for the equipment to be collected and stored until a receiving authority is able to take them.

New electronic waste recycling facilities at the Transfer Station

Information: Port Phillip is proud to now offer its residents an opportunity to recycle their unwanted electronic goods at the South Melbourne transfer station. Working with Beyond Waste recycling, a local company, the city of Port Phillip is now accepting unwanted electronic goods for recycling into new products.

The new service is free of charge to residents and will accept the following materials:

This service is yet another important step towards a 'Zero Waste' community. It will ensure that Port Phillip dramatically reduces the amount of potentially hazards, electronic wastes going to landfill.
