The people of Suai in East Timor need your ongoing support
The Port Phillip community has been working together with the people of Suai since 2000 - a 19,000 strong community near the Western border of East Timor. Life is still difficult in this new nation, but together we are making things happen.
The aim of friends of Suai is to connect our two communities so that we can help the people of Suai while learning from their strengths and experiences.
Working in partnership with Australian Volunteers International, donations from the people of Port Phillip are helping to rebuild vital community services for the people of Suai.
Through your generous donations we have helped to build schools and preschools, fitted community & health centres with solar energy installations and provided skills training for women and the unemployed.
A community education media unit was recently established to assist illiterate communities on social issues. Dangerous landslides prompted villagers to request support from Friends of Suai for restoring their agriculture lands. A nursery was established and 10,000 seedlings were transplanted in January 2007.
By making a small tax-deductible donation to the friends of Suai/Australian Volunteers International program you will be directly assisting people in real need. Why not get involved and help make a difference.
