What is this appeal for?

Huntington's Disease is an inherited neurological condition. This means that it is a disease of the brain, which affects the nervous system and is passed down through a family line. The affects of the disease usually manifest between age 35 and 50, causing problems with movement and cognition. As the disease progresses, affected people have increasing difficulty with muscle control, making everyday tasks such as walking, talking and swallowing extremely difficult.

How will the funds be used?

Support services offered by the Association include Welfare and Counselling Services, Day Respite Program, Respite Holidays, Family Meetings, Welfare staff visits to families in their homes and in care facilities throughout Queensland and an Education Program. Our Mission is to provide professional support and advocacy for all persons affected by Huntington's Disease in Queensland.

Our long term dream is to provide Special Supported Accommodation Units for persons affected by Huntington's Disease.
