What is this appeal for?

The Rugby Youth Foundation is a charitable organisation that aims to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged Australian boys and girls.

Our programs reach children and young people who live in difficult and challenging circumstances, who come from turbulent or financially deprived backgrounds, who live in isolation, or have special needs, to give them a chance in life.

Using rugby as a tool to engage those who often can't be reached by traditional means, our innovative Rugby in the Park program aims to develop young leaders and build community capacity through enhanced self-esteem, teamwork, communication and life skills.

Its not just about playing rugby, that is the vehicle to get the kids involved, ultimately its about enabling these kids to see that they have got something to offer their communities and that people care enough to support them to do that successfully.

How will th funds be used?
Funds raised will go towards "Rugby in the Park" programs in some of Australia's most disadvantaged urban and rural communities. Currently programs operate in Airds, Claymore and Minto - housing estates in Sydney's south west and in Dubbo. The models developed in these communities will be used to expand the program nationally.

The programs are held weekly in out of school hours in each location, and include a healthy afternoon tea and BBQ. For some kids, it's the best meal they'll eat all week.
