What is this appeal for?

Eastern Volunteers seeks the assistance of Whitehorse residents and businesses to help maintain and expand volunteer based programs. Government funding does not keep up with demand and Eastern Volunteers conducts fundraising to help meet the needs of residents and community organisations.

How will the funds be used?

The funds will be used in two key programs supporting Whitehorse residents and not-for-profit community organisations:

recruitment, training and referral of volunteers to the many organisations reliant on volunteers to help deliver essential community services; and
transporting frail aged and people with disabilities and their carers to health and medical appointments, planned activity groups, shopping, recreation and visiting family and friends. These services help ensure people live independently in their homes for as long as possible.

Assistance with operations

Funds would help assist the operation of Eastern Volunteers outreach office in the redeveloped Box Hill Town Hall - Community Hub. This outreach office allows better access for Whitehorse residents wanting to volunteer. Volunteers are put in touch with community organisations needing volunteers to deliver services. Training programs and workshops are also available to volunteers and community workers.

Funding will help us to maintain and operate Eastern Volunteers very important transport program, meeting the needs of many Whitehorse residents. The transport program provides cross boundary transport, including transport into the CBD, which many transport providers have ceased to provide.

Eastern Volunteer reimburses drivers using their own vehicles to transport residents, and petrol price increases are continuing to be of concern. Eastern Volunteers also has a small fleet of vehicles (cars and minibuses) funded mainly by the State government but we have to fund all operating costs such as petrol, oil, servicing, insurance etc.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:

recruitment, training and referral of volunteers
transporting frail aged and people with disabilities and their carers
operating costs of Eastern Volunteers small fleet of vehicles
operation of Eastern Volunteers outreach office in the Box Hill Town Hall - Community Hub
