Donating Your Organs
By being an organ donor you could save or improve the lives of
up to 10 people with serious or life-threatening illnesses.
By joining the 'donor register', you make a contribution to the Australian community, even if you never
end up becoming a donor.
Who can register on the Australian Organ Donor Register?
Registrations received from people under the age of 16 years will not
be recorded on the Donor Register.
Only persons who are aged 18 years or over can register consent (or
objection) on the Donor Register. Your signature will be required
to record your legal consent (or objection) to organ and/or tissue donation
for transplantation.
If you are 16 or 17 years old, you can register your intention (or
objection) to donate. Consent will be discussed with a family member
at the time of death. Your signature will be required to record your intention
(or objection) to organ and/or tissue donation for transplantation.
It is important to discuss your wishes with your family so they can make sure your wishes are considered.
