The Hume Homelessness Network works collaboratively and proactively to resolve and prevent issues of homelessness. Network member agencies work together to assist clients toward independence.

The Intent of Hume Region Homelessness Network:

The Homelessness Network provides a forum for all agencies working in the Housing and Homelessness services sector to address and resolve issues of Homelessness and housing stress and its prevention in the Hume Region:

The Network functions at two levels – at Regional CEO/Manager and at local level/practitioner levels to:

·          Take a strategic, proactive approach to housing and homelessness issues.

·          Inform Government enquiries, policies and approaches to housing and homelessness.

·   Enable opportunities for mutual support, collaboration and information exchange.

·   Encourage consultation at all levels with clients and community.

·   Ensure issues are raised and addressed at government level.

·   Ensure the development and maintenance of good practice in service provision and support to clients.

·   Promote public knowledge about homelessness.

Recent Accomplishments of Hume Region Homelessness Network:

Hume Region Networker organised and facilitated a Mental Health & Homelessness Conference in October 2007. Financial and other support was obtained to conduct a Mental Illness & Homelessness Conference in Regional Victoria to address issues of homelessness and mental illness. Over 80 participants from across the Hume Region attended and evaluation sheets were collated for action in 2008. The Eastern Hume Mental Health & Housing Partnership will address all the recommendations that arose out of the workshop sessions for further action in the area of Mental Illness & Homelessness in Hume Region.

Hume Region Networker facilitates and coordinates all meetings of a Goulburn Valley Affordable Housing group. This group was formed to address issues of housing affordability in the Greater City of Shepparton and has been successful in ensuring that the issue of affordable housing has been included in the Greater City of Shepparton Municipal Health Plan and Council’s housing plan.  In addition, the Networker organised and facilitated a successful forum on housing affordability, bringing together the Business sector, Banks, Builders, Property Developers, Local Government representatives, Victorian Department of Human Services and Community Representatives together to provide an opportunity for addressing and planning for affordable housing in the local community.
