To support the 'journey of healing' of Ngunnawal, other Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and groups in the ACT and surrounding region.

The Intent of Journey of Healing (ACT) Inc:

'Sustaining Ngunnawal Culture' project is a joint initiative with the Ngunnawal people. It aims to generate and sustain reconciliation between Ngunnawal families and individuals. A first cultural camp was held in March 2003 and was so successful that we seek funding for further camps to continue the process.

We also arrange events to further reconciliation between non-Indigenous and Indigenous people, and promote implementation of 'Bringing them home' recommendations in the ACT area.

Recent Accomplishments of Journey of Healing (ACT) Inc:

The 'Sustaining Ngunnawal Culture' project successfuly brought together 8 families of the Ngunnawal people, who previously were not in contact with each other. Achievements of the recent camp (see above) were:
  • opening communication between the family groups;
  • bringing the community together to work on local issues;
  • active participation in workshops that produced positive problem-solving proposals;
  • agreement on a charter to build capacity to achieve a sustainable community;
  • success of this project is indicated by feedback and evaluation, and requests by participants for further camps to continue what was acknowledged by Elders to be a journey of healing for Ngunnawal people.
