The Way Community provides accommodation and outreach services to men who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We provide support as well as shelter, through case management programs that enable our residents and outreach clients to recover and stabilise their lives. The men we work with have often experienced multiple challenges including mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction, poverty, and time in the corrections system. Staff at The Way provide 24 hour, seven days a week support by assisting with everyday tasks such as preparing meals, setting and keeping appointments, administering medications and encouraging socialisation. Our aim is to help our residents and outreach clients to live full and healthy lives, learn new skills, maintain a level of independence and stability and experience the benefits of a supportive community.

The Intent of The Way Community:

The Way Community is a home and outreach centre for older men who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. We offer a home in which residents are valued and supported, and we also seek out people in local boarding houses, squats or on the street who are vulnerable, and the hardest to reach. We undertake welfare checks and connect people to needed services as well as being a social and supportive community. We are a point of entry for many to gain the basic necessities including food, shelter and clothing. We aim to be, as our mission statement says, a community of dignity, care and belonging.
