The objects for which the corporation is established are:


(a)               to act as a trustee prescribed body corporate in respect of a native title determination under s.55 of the Native Title Act 1994 (Cth);


 


(b)               to fulfil the role and functions of a prescribed body corporate in accordance with the Act;


 


(c)               to hold and manage the native title rights and interests of the common law holders of those rights and interests;


 


(d)              to be the grantee, including sole grantee, of grants of land made under the Aboriginal Land Act 1991 (Qld);


 


(e)              to fulfil the role and functions of a trustee in accordance with the Aboriginal Land Act 1991 (Qld) the Aboriginal Land Regulation 1991 (Qld) and the Land Trust Rules;


 


(f)                to hold land granted pursuant to the Aboriginal Land Act 1991 (Qld) for the benefit of aboriginal people, their ancestors and descendants;


 


(g)               to act as trustee of land granted pursuant to the Land Act 1994 (Qld), including ordinary freehold land;


 


(h)              to own land, including legal and equitable interests in land;


 


(i)                to act as trustee of community purpose reserves pursuant to the Land Act 1994 (Qld);


 


(j)               to exercise all powers necessary and/or convenient to perform its functions for the benefit of the common law holders of the rights and interests in the land, or beneficiaries of trusts, in all matters relevant to these objects;


 


(k)               to comply with the agreements between the Eastern Kuku Yalanji People, the State and other parties to which this corporation is a party;


 


(l)                to assist Eastern Kuku Yalanji people that were removed from country to return to  country;


 


(m)              to protect, preserve and advance the traditions, laws, languages, culture and customs of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people;


 


(n)              to help build trust and friendship between the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people and other Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people;


 


(o)              to represent traditional owners in all matters related to the ownership, use, occupation of, and access to Eastern Kuku Yalanji country; and


 


(p)              to promote the economic, social and cultural aspirations and well-being of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people.


 


(q)              To operate and maintain a Gift Fund to be known as “The Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC Gift Fund” in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Taxation Office.

Native Title Holder


Holder of Aboriginal Freehold Land on behalf of Traditional Owners


Very new organisation in Northern Wet Tropics of FNQ. In process of being registered as Cultural Heritage Body. Facilitating development of Indigenous Protected Area. Faciltating processes to enable Traditional Owners to return to their Traditional estates. Working with State to put in place processes and guidelines to facilitate Traditional Owners activities on their Traditional estates. Developing a business and economic development strategy for Traditional Owners to provide income and employment on Traditional estates.

Recent Accomplishments of Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation:

Implementation of Indigenous Land Use Agreements over 230000ha of Northern Wet Tropics (ongoing)


Commenced drafting Indigenous Protected Area plan of management for Northern Wet Tropics.
