• Provide emotional and cultural support to families and clients.
• Create a volunteer base to provide culturally appropriate support
• Create a database of verified providers of culturally appropriate lifestyle services (e.g. Cooking, Cleaning, Driving etc.)
• Create awareness in the community towards Australian Government Health services, Health professionals and Multicultural Health Services

The Intent of AASHA AUSTRALIA FOUNDATION:

AASHA AUSTRALIA FOUNDATION is working to get services for our seniors

We do this by
My Aged Care
1 Registering and assisting on My Aged Care. My Aged Care is government initiative and to access any community health services, any one 65plus has to go through its most of our community specially seniors are not aware of it or are having issues to access this service our volunteers help them.
Dementia, Mental Health
2 Dementia and mental health is another area which has a stigma attached to it. Often families do not know about it. We assist and support clients by helping them in placements in day centre. We also support carers in any way we can.
We hold a mental health forum to educate community for this. Also connect them to services in this area.
3 Health Promotion- Camps/Stalls
Our project Stay Well, Live Well project provided information on aged care services and free health checks.
This is a new imitative and so far we had
12th, March, 2017, in North Parramatta, at HOLI Community event-Meal
A double big stall along with our partners and provided
Free health checks
Information on My Aged Care
Nutrition
Exercise-Stay fit and active information
2 We are holding another health promotion camp at Parklea Sikh Temple on 22nd April, 2017 for Vaisakhi celebration. We will provide all of the above and free health checks including free Flu Vax for seniors.
4 Social Hubs
Stay Well, Live well project
We will like to have social hobs or centres where community can come and meet, with cultural activities so that people can stay at home and get help. This project encourages young, old and all age groups to connect
Our first social hub is starting at Crows nest Community centre on19th April,2017.
We have already placed some seniors in South Turramurra social group.
Our goal is to start more social hubs in different areas
5Cultural activities
We also hold musical Mahfils for community

6 LOBBYING-with Govt and NGO’s to get our community recognised for culture aged care.
Working on two big projects, which indicates that AASHA has been able to get our Community recognised to be included in consultation for major health issues
1 Alzheimer’s Australia along with AASHA is making a DVD in Hindi to raise awareness about dementia in community. It will be a great resource and great way to connect, educate and raise awareness for dementia in our community
