The SA Women's Memorial Playing Fields Trust is tasked with commemorating the nurses who died on Bangka Island in 1942 at the fall of Singapore. The Trust holds a Memorial Service each year and maintains a public memorial to those who died, as well as to all serving women across the Australian Defence Force. The site is a living memorial to the nurses who were massacred, which includes playing fields initially developed as a way to ensure that women and girls had access to playing fields to encourage participation in club sports. The site and the memorial are undergoing a significant redevelopment and the role of the Trust is to ensure that the legacy is maintained for future generations for both playing sport and as a historical monument to commemorate the sacrifice of women in service to their country.
We currently need a Treasurer, so would welcome expressions of interest from anyone with skills or experience in financial record-keeping and reporting as well as an interest in the memorial. It is not essential for committee members to have a direct connection, either as a Veteran or a descendant, just a strong interest in maintaining the history of women who have served.
