Looking to recruit skilled and like minded people to enhance our Board of Governance.

We are a small but daring independent charity with our one-of-a-kind program and a world leader in Equine Assisted Narrative Therapy. By re-imagining service delivery, we actively work to challenge labels and convention models of healing. Our collaborative work de-pathologizes humans and de-stigmatises horses. We are in a unique time of growth and seek like-minded people to join in the task of guiding the organization into the future.

Demand for our service is continually increasing and we are currently in a unique time of growth and planning and are seeking to enhance the Board of Directors as we move forward.

While we would welcome applications from any person with an interest in the work of Horses For Hope and particular skills or interest that maybe helpful to the Board, we are currently particularly seeing people with skills in finance, legal and fundraising and program development.

Applications from interested persons will be received by the Board of directors and a selection process conducted with successful applications invited to join the Board as a director.

People who have skills to offer who may not be able to commit to joining the Board of Directors, may become an associate member and join a specific focus subcommittee, or be available to offer advice or consultation in particular areas.

Board of Directors responsibilities and expectations.

The Board, serviced and supported by the Program Director and Founder and the company secretary (who is also the finance manager), is responsible for the governance of the organization, including planning, financial control, monitoring service provision, meeting all reporting requirements and the legal obligations of the organization. Essentially planning for the future and monitoring present operations.

Full meetings are quarterly and these include additional time set aside for workshops focussing on strategic planning, development, review and other issues as required in the monitoring and planning cycles. This includes budget planning, fundraising, community engagement, program review and others as may be appropriate. Currently these are conducted during the day, but the members decide what suits best. Currently these are day time meetings but this is not set in stone for the future.

Between these quarterly meetings, special meetings are called as needed to deal with specific issues. There as usually conducted remotely.

The Board is moving to a subcommittee structure with potential areas of finance, training, program delivery and fundraising and community engagement.  Members of subcommittees would not all have to be Directors, although each subcommittee would have to have Directors as members of the group. Short term particular focus subcommittees may also be established as required.

From time to time as is appropriate, Directors can be expected to represent the organization in forums, meetings, and the media.

Commitment of time expected of directors is therefore.

  • Quarterly meetings including workshop, at least half day duration.
  • Other special meetings as required usually remote, at the moment these are usually evening meetings. Should be approximately 1 hour but depends on the issue and attention required.
  • Subcommittees as decided by directors and input determined by tasks at hand.
  • Occasionally representing the organization forums, meetings, and media.
