Do you have community or business experience? Would you like to use your skills to make a difference to the lives of people with disabilities? Would you like to contribute to good governance of a voluntary organisation by becoming a Board member?

Riding for the Disabled Tasmania Inc (RDAT) is seeking Expressions of Interest for two Board members who can demonstrate a capability to contribute to our organisation at a strategic level.

About the RDAT:

RDAT is a voluntary, not for profit (NFP) organisation. We provide equine services to people with a disability; offering opportunities to enjoy safe, healthy, stimulating and therapeutic horse-related activities and have been operating in Tasmania since 1975.

Our Mission:

RDAT supports our stakeholders to enable people living with disabilities to experience enjoyment, challenge and a sense of achievement through equestrian activities to improve their quality of life, attain personal goals and develop life skills.

Our Vision:

To be Tasmania’s foremost authority, advocate and resource for Equestrian associated activities for people living with disabilities or additional support needs.

The Board:

The role of the Board is to provide governance and strategic oversight of the organisation including, but not limited to, responsibility for financial and legal decisions, strategic planning, review and implement of policies, procedure and risk management.  The Board has a strong relationship with Riding for the Disabled Association Australia and ensures compliance with national policies and practices.

Desirable skills or attributes:

  • A selection of professional skills and experience encompassing strategy, legal, governance, finance, marketing, business, human resources, health and safety, community and stakeholder engagement, risk management.
  • Previous Board or Committee experience.
  • NFP sector skills and experience with an understanding of the disability and community sectors.
  • Knowledge of decision-making and governance processes ideally in a community setting.
  • Proven ability to identify and critically evaluate growth opportunities and identify new ways in which the objectives of the RDAT can be achieved.
  • A strong values alignment and empathy for the work of the RDAT.

Eligibility for Board membership:

  • Financial member of the RDAT.
  • Registration to Work with Vulnerable People with NDIS endorsement.
  • Completion of the on-line/eLearning NDIS Workers Orientation Module.

Although the position is not remunerated, it offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference to anyone with a disability to enjoy safe, healthy, stimulating and therapeutic horse-related activities in Tasmania.

Registered volunteers with RDA are insured for personal accident insurance as well as management liability insurance.
