The General Douglas MacArthur Brisbane Memorial Foundation Limited (MacArthur Foundation) is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee, as trustee for the General Douglas MacArthur Brisbane Memorial Foundation, formerly the MacArthur Trust.

 

A Board of Directors oversees and governs the operation of the MacArthur Museum Brisbane (the Museum), located in the MacArthur Chambers, Level 8, 201 Edward Street, Brisbane. 

 

The Museum, operated by a group of dedicated community volunteers, is custodian for the World War Two heritage listed offices of General MacArthur and his Chief of Staff General Sutherland, the site of General Headquarters, South West Pacific Area (SWPA). From this building MacArthur commanded the Allied Forces SWPA, while in Brisbane between July 1942 and October 1944.These offices are the centrepiece of the Museum.

 

The Museum maintains a collection related to, and highlighting the social, cultural, and economic impact on the people of Brisbane in World War Two, through galleries related to MacArthur the Man, Brisbane at War and the South West Pacific Galleries.

 

VISION

 

The MacArthur Foundation envisions a museum which inspires adults and children by enhancing their understanding of the achievements and the hardship endured by the people of Brisbane and those who fought for our nation in the South West Pacific Area during World War Two.

 

PURPOSE

 

The Foundation’s purpose is to support, develop and maintain the MacArthur Museum Brisbane:

 

  • as a Story of Brisbane at War, with the primary focus on youth, education, and history, through accessions, memorabilia, inter-active and static displays; and
  • the MacArthur heritage offices within it, emphasising its uniqueness in a World War Two context.

 

MISSION

 

Through sound governance, financial sustainability, resourcing, stakeholder management and engagement, the Foundation will facilitate an environment which allows the MacArthur Museum Brisbane to create exhibits which:

 

  • Highlight the social, cultural, and economic impacts of World War Two on the people of Brisbane,
  • Promote a community awareness of the sacrifices made by Australians and their Allies, both service and civilian, during the War,
  • Recognise the significant role played by General Douglas MacArthur as Commander of the Allied Forces in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA),
  • Provide a historical perspective on the threat to Australia posed by Japan during World War Two.

 

The Foundation is seeking a fundraising expert to join the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Opportunity for a passionate administrator to play a pivotal role in the expansion of an established, emerging not-for-profit committed to making the world a better place.

Volunteer role with minimum time commitment of only two hours per week plus four Board meetings per year.

 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Fundraising strategy: Advise upon the Foundation’s fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with its vision, mission and financial goals.
  • Fundraising planning: Advise upon the creation of fundraising plans, including target setting.
  • Major donor identification: Advise upon the identification of major donors, corporate sponsors, and philanthropic partners to secure contributions.
  • Support grant writing: Advise upon grant proposals and applications to secure grants from foundations, government agencies, and other funding sources.
  • Fundraising events: Advise upon fundraising events, such as galas, dinners, auctions, and online campaigns, to raise funds and engage supporters.
  • Donor stewardship: Advise upon donor recognition and stewardship programs to maintain donor relationships and encourage repeat giving.
  • Compliance and ethics: Advise upon how fundraising activities must adhere to all legal and ethical standards.
  • Fundraising innovation: Stay current with fundraising trends and techniques and recommend innovative approaches.

 

 

About you

  • Demonstrated record of managing fundraising programs across corporate partnerships and sponsorships, individual giving, events and grants.
  • Alignment with the Foundation’s mission: Strong commitment to the mission.
  • Strong communicator: Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, and networking skills with diverse stakeholder sets.
  • Team player: Proven ability to work effectively within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • NFP knowledge: Familiarity with the not-for-profit sector and corporate governance relevant to NFP organisations advantageous.
