Regional Development Advisory Council
Summary
The NSW Government is looking for regional leaders with relevant skills and experience to help shape regional economic development in NSW.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is the government agency responsible for protecting, supporting and developing regional NSW. We are dedicated to growing our primary industries and supporting regional economic development to deliver long term benefits to regional NSW, and our state.
We work with industry and community to implement policies and programs that protect, support, and develop our primary industries and regional communities.
Overview
The NSW Government is taking a fresh approach to how it invests in the regional NSW to ensure that we deliver strategic, sustainable and long-term outcomes for regional and rural communities.
This process is part of the Regional Development Roadmap which includes 3 key elements:
- an initial investment of $400 million Regional Development Trust
- modernising the Regional Development Act
- the Regional Development Advisory Council.
The Advisory Council will be appointed by the Minister for Regional NSW under Part 3 of the Regional Development Act. The Advisory Council provides independent advice to the Minister for Regional NSW about investments made under the $400 million Regional Development Trust. The Advisory Council’s independent advice helps ensure projects and programs are evidence-based and that regional communities are at the centre of government decision-making.
About you
Up to seven members will be appointed for three years by the Minister for Regional NSW with relevant skills and experience in the following areas:
- climate adaptation and resilience
- community service activities

The following factors are taken into account in determining the appointment of a person as a member of the Advisory Council:
- whether the person has lived and worked in a regional area,
- whether the person’s appointment would contribute to the Advisory Council having a range of skills, experiences and backgrounds.
