The Association for Services to Torture and Trauma Survivors Incorporated (ASeTTS) is seeking Expressions of Interest from qualified and experienced individuals to join our Board as the next Board Chair.
Following a long and successful tenure, our current Board Chair is approaching the end of her term, and we are now searching for a capable successor. If you are looking to join a committed team making a powerful difference in the lives of survivors of torture and other forms of trauma, we would love to hear from you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Chair of the ASeTTS Board plays a critical leadership role in ensuring effective governance, strategic direction, and oversight of the organisation. Our ideal candidate:
- Has prior experience serving on Boards (experience as a Board Chair is highly desirable)
- Brings expertise in areas aligned with organisational needs, such as governance, organisational change, finance, information technology, or cybersecurity.
- Demonstrates values-based leadership
- Is willing to commit the time required to effectively manage Board responsibilities, attend meetings, and support the Chief Executive Office
- Possesses a solid understanding of not-for-profit governance, funding, risk management, and compliance
- Is willing to become a member of the association.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the governance of an organisation that is deeply dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of refugees and asylum seekers. You will receive coaching and support from the current Board Chair, helping you become familiar with the organisation, its leadership, and the dynamics of the Board.
ABOUT ASeTTS
ASeTTS is a leading for-purpose organisation providing mental health services, social supports, and community and cultural transition programs to people from refugee-like backgrounds who have survived torture and other forms of trauma.
Since 1992, we have supported people of all ages through individual, family, group, and community services. These programs are tailored to meet the diverse needs of cultural and linguistically diverse communities, acknowledging each person’s unique experiences and trauma histories.
As an accredited mental health provider and a member of national and global torture recovery networks, ASeTTS is committed to restoring hope and dignity. We partner with refugee survivors of torture and trauma to support individuals, families, and communities to rebuild their lives, to thrive, and enrich Australia.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) directly to ASeTTS via executive@asetts.org.au by Sunday 18 May 2025.
Your EOI should include:
- A current resume
- A cover letter (no more than 2 pages) outlining your interest in the role and the skills and experience you would bring as Board Chair.

Important information: ASeTTS’ constitution requires Board Directors and Office Holders to be appointed by its members. The successful candidate will officially assume the position of Board Chair upon formal election at the next Annual General Meeting.
