Volunteer Treasurer – Role Description
Organisation: SeedArts Australia Inc
Location: The organisation is based in Bundjalung Country / Northern Rivers NSW (meetings are online via Zoom)
Time Commitment: Approx. 5 hours per month (slightly more around reporting periods)
Reports to: Committee of Management
About SeedArts
SeedArts is a small not for profit arts organisation that plays a unique role in the regional NSW arts ecology. Through site and social-specific practice SeedArts celebrates stories, people and places of the Northern Rivers, Bundjalung Country. We support local artists with production services and career development and enrich cultural and community life with creative projects that connect people through artmaking and reflect the diversity of our region.
Role Summary
The Treasurer is a SeedArts Committee of Management (CoM) member and plays a key governance role in ensuring the organisation’s financial sustainability and compliance. Working alongside a professional bookkeeper and the organisation’s CEO, the treasurer oversees financial processes, reports, and planning to help support SeedArts' community foccused artistic practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of SeedArts' financial position and ensure responsible financial management.
- Work with bookkeeper-prepared accounts in Xero and review for accuracy and prepare management reports for the COM.
- Present clear and accessible financial reports to the committee at regular meetings.
- Support the CEO/Artistic Director in the development of the annual budget.
- Support compliance with financial obligations.
- Lead the Finance Committee.
- Prepare and present annual financial statements for the AGM
- Act as one of the signatories on the association’s bank account
- Support grant applications and acquittals by providing or reviewing financial information
- Ensure good financial governance practices are upheld.
Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with budgeting, financial reporting or basic accounting principles
- Comfortable reading financial reports and explaining them to others
- Good attention to detail and communication skills
- An interest in community arts and cultural development and alignment with SeedArts' values
- Prior experience with non-profits or small organisations (desirable but not essential)

- The organisation employs a bookkeeper who maintains the accounts in Xero.
- Access to previous financial records and tools.
- Support from the Chair and other committee members.
