The Wilderness Collective is a dynamic, grassroots organisation dedicated to reshaping the future of Mallacoota and districts. Founded by five local women in the wake of the Black Summer bushfires, our organisation is passionate about entrepreneurial thinking, knowledge development, collaboration, and building long-term economic sustainability for our town.

In April 2025, we achieved a major milestone—securing a cornerstone property in Mallacoota’s main street. This space is now the heart of our Innovation, Education and Employment Hub, where locals come together to learn, collaborate, and create new opportunities for meaningful, year-round livelihoods.

Strategic Priorities

Our work is guided by a clear roadmap and strategic alignment with key local, state, and international policies, including:

  • Creating Sustainable Local Employment: Fostering job creation and supporting small business and enterprise in Mallacoota and beyond.
  • Building Community Resilience: Supporting community-led recovery, learning, and innovation, with a focus on inclusivity and multi-generational engagement.
  • Amplifying Social Impact: Delivering accessible programs, workshops, and mentoring that empower individuals and businesses at every stage.
  • Driving Financial and Environmental Sustainability: Embedding best-practice governance and sustainable operations, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and regional development strategies.
  • Strengthening Partnerships: Collaborating with like-minded organisations and networks to amplify our impact and innovate for the future.

We’re Seeking a New Board Director

  • Professional Skills: Experience in organisation and revenue development, innovation, or finance.
  • Strong Networks: Connections in social enterprise, regional development, philanthropy.
  • Advocacy & Leadership: Ability to champion our mission, engage stakeholders, and help shape the future of our initiatives.
