About the Australian BPD Foundation

The Australian BPD Foundation is a national, member-based not-for-profit dedicated to raising awareness and improving the lives of people impacted by borderline personality disorder (BPD) (with or without experiences of complex trauma). We achieve this through advocacy, clinician education and our flagship annual initiative – BPD Awareness Week (1–7 October). The Foundation is a registered ACNC charity and public company limited by guarantee.

The Board

The Board is responsible for governance, strategic direction, financial stewardship and stakeholder engagement. It delegates day-to-day operations to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

  • Size: Up to 12 directors (currently 8)
  • Meetings: Up to 12 scheduled board meetings per year (virtual), plus one strategic planning day (Melbourne-based in-person).

Purpose of the Role

To strengthen the Board’s collective capability in industry partnerships, government relations, marketing/communications and sponsorship acquisition, supporting the Foundation’s growth and impact.

Ideal Skills & Experience

Industry ExperienceSenior leadership within healthcare, mental-health services, digital health, or allied industries relevant to our mission

Government Contacts & Policy InsightProven ability to navigate state/federal health departments, MH commissions, parliamentary committees or ministerial offices

Marketing & CommunicationsTrack record in brand building, public campaigns, digital engagement or social-impact storytelling

Sponsorship / Corporate PartnershipsDemonstrated success securing and maintaining six-figure+ sponsorships or CSR partnerships

Other Desirable Lived experience of BPD (personal, clinical or carer); governance qualifications (e.g., GAICD); finance/risk oversight; geographic diversity outside VictoriaCommitment & Term

  • Time: ~8–10 hrs/month (board & committee meetings, reading, representation, advisory committees?)
  • Term: Initial co-option till the next AGM in November then election for a 3 year term with the option of re-election.
  • Remuneration: Voluntary. Approved expenses reimbursed.
  • Legal Requirements:  Required to obtain a National Police Check and complete an ACNC Responsible Person declaration and obtain a Director’s ID.

  1. A concise expression of interest (max 2 pages) outlining relevant experience and motivation
  2. A current CV

Before a recommendation for co-option is put to the full Board shortlisted candidates will be requested to:

  1. Attend an informal interview the CEO and two board members
  2. Provide two referees
  3. National Police Certificate issued by your state Police Department and/or Working with Children or Vulnerable People Check. NB. Requirements vary from state to state. Please ask for a board member for guidance. Fees paid for “Voluntary roles” within National Police Certificates, WWCC and WWVP will be reimbursed to applicants on presentation of a receipt.

  5. At the next Annual General Meeting of the Australian BPD Foundation co-opted Board members need to retire and be renominated to commence their three year term. The AGM is held in November.
