Women’s Sheds Australia is a national initiative in development, established to support and connect a thriving network of Women’s Sheds across the country. Our mission is to connect, empower and elevate Australian Women’s Sheds through advocacy, support, collaboration, upskilling and access to shared resources.
While still in its foundational phase, AWSA is already recognised as a trusted voice and resource by a growing number of Sheds and supporters. We are now formalising our governance structures and strategic direction, and are seeking a founding Treasurer to help us build strong financial foundations and guide our transition into a sustainable, member-serving national body.
About the Role As Treasurer, you will play a vital role in helping shape AWSA’s financial systems, policies and practices from the ground up. You will work closely with the Chair and fellow directors to establish financial processes, support initial funding applications, and guide the organisation toward long-term sustainability and readiness for future growth.
While AWSA is not yet formally launched, strong demand from communities across Australia has created a groundswell of momentum. This is a unique opportunity to shape a national organisation at the point of inception.
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide strategic financial guidance to the Board
-
Assist in the establishment of financial systems, policies and controls
-
Lead the development of budgets and financial frameworks
-
Support the organisation’s transition to incorporation and eventual DGR registration
-
Provide oversight of financial reporting, compliance and risk
-
Work with the Chair and CEO to support funding applications and partner engagement
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
-
Is a qualified accountant (CA/CPA) or brings significant senior finance experience
-
Has experience in start-up or early-stage NFPs, particularly around financial systems and compliance
-
Is comfortable working in a hands-on, collaborative environment with a values-driven team
-
Understands the obligations of Board Directors under the ACNC and Corporations Act
-
Is passionate about gender equity, inclusion and grassroots empowerment
-
Has capacity to commit to bi-monthly virtual Board meetings, with ad hoc input between meetings
Why Join Us? You’ll be joining a founding board at an exciting moment — not just building a new organisation, but helping shape a national movement. This is a rare opportunity to contribute your expertise to something with deep purpose and growing national reach, alongside an experienced and passionate Chair and volunteer team.
