Lead with purpose – Chair of the Board

Are you a strategic leader passionate about sustainable natural resource management? Reef Catchments Limited (RCL) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chair of the Board to guide our governance, strategy, and stakeholder engagement at a pivotal and exciting time for our region.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead high-performing Board governance and strategic direction.
  • Foster a strong, collaborative relationship with the CEO.
  • Represent RCL at key regional, state, and national forums.
  • Champion sustainable natural resource management (NRM) outcomes and stakeholder partnerships.
  • Oversee Board performance, succession, and policy integrity.

The Reef Catchments Group includes Reef Catchments, a not-for-profit organisation limited by guarantee, and our wholly owned subsidiary, Catchment Solutions Pty Ltd.

Selection Criteria

Must-Haves:

  • Board Leadership: Proven experience chairing boards or committees, ideally in NRM, regional development, or purpose-driven sectors.
  • Strategic Governance: Strong grasp of and experience with subsidiary governance, risk, performance, and safety oversight or interlocking directorships.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Skilled in advocacy and engagement with government, industry, and community.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Inclusive, high-trust leadership style that drives performance.
  • Commercial Acumen: Confident in financial oversight, compliance, risk, regulatory compliance and organisational accountability.

Highly Desirable:

  • Background in environmental, agricultural, or regional policy.
  • Senior executive or board-level role experience in government, corporate, or NFP
  • Understanding of NRM frameworks, Traditional Owner engagement, and co-design.

Travel:

  • Current driver’s licence, available to travel up to 15 days annually.

Estimated Time commitment:

The role requires a flexible and meaningful time investment, averaging 30–40 days per year, plus light weekly engagement. This includes:

  • Board and Strategy Meetings: 10–12 days/year
  • Committee Participation: 4–6 days/year
  • External Board Roles (NRM RQ & Catchment Solutions):  8–10 days/year
  • Preparation, Stakeholder Engagement & Travel:  10–15 days/year
  • CEO Mentorship & Oversight:  1–2 hours/week
