The Gulf Regional Economic Aboriginal Trust (GREAT) is a large social enterprise with a strong focus on economic development.

GREAT is currently involved in supermarkets, roadhouses, tourist attractions and art galleries.

GREAT currently holds considerable investments in:

• Doomadgee Roadhouse and accommodation units (12 high standard units)

• Doomadgee Roadhouse 4WD Hire

• Normanton Foodworks grocery and lotto

• Normanton Bakery located inside Normanton Foodworks

• Daintree Discovery Centre, tourist attraction

• Ancient Journeys Art and Retail Gallery

GREAT is currently seeking an independent Finance director. 

Competencies and skills (role related):

  • Knowledge of a director’s responsibilities – includes an understanding of the role as well as the legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities;
  • Strategic expertise – the ability to review the strategy through constructive questioning and suggestion and contribute to the effective decision making of the board;
  • Accounting and finance – experience in accounting and finance to analyse statements, assess financial viability, contribute to financial planning, oversee budgets, oversee funding arrangements. Experience in financial markets is an advantage;
  • Risk Management – experience in managing areas of major risk management to the organisation;
  • Industry knowledge – experience in similar organisations, working in Indigenous communities.
