The Chair of the Board provides leadership and direction to ensure the effective governance of Words on the Waves Writers Festival. This role is pivotal in guiding the strategic vision, ensuring compliance and accountability, and representing the organisation within the community and broader literary sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategic Direction

    • Lead the Board in setting and delivering the organisation’s strategic objectives.

    • Facilitate effective and productive Board meetings.

    • Build a collaborative and positive culture among Board members and volunteers.

  • Governance & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with the organisation’s constitution and relevant legal obligations.

    • Oversee risk management and organisational performance.

    • Ensure transparent and ethical decision-making processes.

  • Advocacy & Representation

    • Act as the primary spokesperson for the organisation, promoting its mission and values.

    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including authors, sponsors, funding bodies, and media.

    • Represent the festival at community, cultural, and literary events.

  • Financial Stewardship

    • Work with the Treasurer to oversee budgets and financial performance.

    • Support the development of sustainable funding through sponsorship, partnerships, and grants.

  • Team Support & Volunteer Engagement

    • Provide leadership and support to Board members and volunteers.

    • Encourage active participation, engagement, and accountability across the organisation.
