Recruitment for Community Living Association Inc: Management Committee and / or Subcommittee members.

 Community Living Association Inc. (CLA) is currently seeking Expressions of Interest from Professionals to bring particular skills to our Management Committee and Subcommittees (currently Finance and Business Development, Property, and Governance).

There are multiple voluntary roles, which will provide you the opportunity to contribute your specific expertise to a highly regarded, values driven, for purpose organisation.

Community Living Association Inc. (CLA) is a not-for-profit organisation that manages a range of innovative programs. These programs provide support, create opportunities and promote independence for people with cognitive and learning disabilities and young people at risk. 

CLA has over three decades of experience providing tailored supports that enhance the quality of life of some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised members of the community.  

CLA believes that relationships are central to creating community inclusion and is committed to helping people on the fringes feel valued, included and confident to share their unique gifts.  

CLA operates the following programs and activities: 

  • Community Connections – Reconnect and school based social work services to young people and families where young people are at risk of homelessness. 
  • ARROS – Outreach program to young people with intellectual disabilities and cognitive disabilities who are homeless. 
  • ARROS Transitions – Transition support to young people with intellectual disabilities and cognitive disabilities who are exiting Child Safety and who are at risk. 
  • BEROS – Outreach and emergency support to young people in care of Child Safety who are not in approved kinship care/foster care and residential care arrangements. 
  • Community Living Program – Support people with intellectual disabilities. 
  • Support Coordination and Plan Management for people with NDIS plans. 
  • Village Housing – A range of long term and emergency housing. 
  • Skilling Queenslanders for Work – Training and employment support for people with disabilities and for people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. 
  • Training and Research activities 

CLA also has a history of promoting the development of a range of self-management groups (People’s Organisations) which have formed around collective needs: 

  • WWILD-SVP Inc – Women with intellectual and learning difficulties sexual violence prevention and support. 
  • Nundah Community Enterprises Co-operative Ltd 
  • Independent Youth Housing Group (IYHG Ltd)

Desired Skills

  • Accountant / experience in financial management and / or
  • Understanding of insurance requirements for Not for Profits’s and / or
  • Human Resources /Industrial Relations experience and / or
  • Legal qualifications and / or
  • Marketing and / or
  • Experience in Governance in community organisations
  • Property Development experience (the Property Subcommittee currently meets once a quarter, but may become more frequent)

 

Requirements

  • To become a member of CLA Inc.
  • A current curriculum vitae
  • Blue card and NDIS worker screening card
  • 2 Covid vaccinations and a booster (due to the health vulnerabilities of CLA Constituents)

 

Commitment

We envisage that this voluntary role would require approximately 2 hours –3 hours of reading and preparation and 2 hours of meeting every 6 weeks, plus our Annual General Meeting.  Both the Management Committee and Subcommittee are hybrid meetings so you could attend an online meeting.

We use BoardPro software to manage documentation and record decisions and actions.
