Who we are and what we do

Access Support Services Inc (Access) is located in Townsville, and provides support services for people with a disability.  We have 16 Supported Independent Living participants and 11 Community Access clients, and our valued team of support workers and administrative staff work closely together to improve quality of daily life for our participants.  We support and facilitate social interactions and activities, excursions and holidays where appropriate, and look for opportunities to expand and improve these initiatives where we can, to support the local disability community generally.

Your role

As a board member, you will work with the Board and CEO to provide direction and strategies to continue to deliver for our participants.  Access is aiming to grow our board membership at this time to support the organisation through a period of change and growth, ensure we develop sustainably and instill good oversight and governance.  We encourage applications from people with a disability, and people with a background in governance or strategy in the not-for-profit sector, though these are not prerequisites for the role.

Expectations

Access Board members are required to:

  • Attend Board Meetings regularly
  • Attend the Annual General Meetings and Special General Meetings
  • Review and provide input and oversight for documentation, procedures, policy and projects

Board Meetings are held online and in person, so applicants need not be based in Townsville, though there is an expectation that the successful applicant would travel to Townsville at least once per year at the expense of Access.  Board meetings are held monthly in general from February to October, and the AGM is held in November.  The meetings are held in the late afternoon and generally last between 1.5 and 2 hours.  There may be Special General Meetings during the year to review projects or other activities.
