About Us

The Lupus Foundation of Australasia is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by lupus and related autoimmune conditions. Through advocacy, education, research partnerships, and community support, we aim to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and ultimately work towards a cure.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Non-Executive Board Director to join our Board. This is a voluntary governance role that plays a crucial part in shaping the Foundation’s strategic direction and ensuring strong oversight.

In particular, we are looking for a director with legal expertise, ideally in the charity and health sectors, to strengthen the Board’s capacity in areas such as:

  • Governance and compliance with ACNC and charity regulations.

  • Risk management and legal oversight.

  • Health-related regulatory frameworks.

  • Supporting advocacy, partnerships, and contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and governance of the Foundation.

  • Provide specialist legal insight to guide the Board in decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and best practice standards.

  • Act as an ambassador for the Foundation, promoting our mission and values.

  • Attend Board meetings (approximately 6–8 per year, online) and participate in subcommittees where required.

About You

We are seeking someone who brings:

  • Professional legal qualifications and significant experience (essential).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of charity law, not-for-profit governance, or the health sector.

  • Understanding of fiduciary duties and risk management in a Board context.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a governance team.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting people living with lupus and improving health outcomes.

What We Offer

  • An opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of people impacted by lupus.

  • The chance to shape the growth and impact of a young, dynamic organisation.

  • A collaborative and values-driven Board environment.
