Non-Executive Director x3

Women’s Legal Service Victoria (Women's Legal) is inviting expressions of interest from women and non-binary people to fill three voluntary vacancies on its Board.

We are seeking individuals with a strong commitment to building a gender equitable society and a demonstrated understanding of governance, particularly in a for-purpose setting. Specifically, we are seeking to appoint:

  • A Treasurer with financial, accounting and/or investment experience, and
  • Two non-executive directors with experience in any of the following:
    • fundraising
    • information technology strategy

The Board therefore invites individuals with skills and experience in financial management, accounting, fundraising or information technology strategy to apply.

The Women's Legal Board consists of passionate and committed individuals, who display the following personal attributes and behaviours:

  • Ongoing learning and humility through a commitment to continually evolve our understanding of the impact of intersecting discriminations on our clients, people, communities and the legal system.
  • Integrity and trust through consistent ethical behaviour, transparent communication and individual responsibility.
  • Respect the whole person and treat all people with dignity by recognising and valuing each person’s dimensions, including their professional and lived experience.
  • Constructive inquiry through active listening, constructive questioning and collaborative exploration.
  • Independent judgment by forming well-reasoned and independent opinions while contributing to collective decision-making.

The Board meets on a bi-monthly basis with three additional strategy meetings throughout the year. Beyond formal meetings, members may be asked to join subcommittees and/or contribute to targeted Board projects or activities. In 2026, this will include driving the implementation of our intersectional feminist framework, diversifying our funding and strengthening our governance.

In accordance with the Women's Legal Constitution, Board positions are only open to women and non-binary people. More information about the Board’s ways of working is included in our Board Charter.

Women's Legal recognises that our work must be informed by the people and communities impacted by gendered violence. We encourage applications from people with diverse professional and lived experience. We value the unique knowledge, skills and expertise of women and non-binary people, including those with lived experience of family violence and sexual violence, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability and people from migrant, refugee or non-English speaking backgrounds.
