Phoenix Support & Advocacy Service is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who wish to volunteer their time and expertise to help lead Phoenix to successfully achieve the Association's aims and strategic objectives.

Phoenix was formally incorporated in 1984 and has Charity status. Phoenix is a small not-for-profit organisation funded by Government to provide centre-based and online therapeutic services to adults who have been subjected to intra-familial and/or extra-familial childhood sexual assault and abuse, as well as non-offending family members and significant others impacted by a disclosure.  The main office is based in West Perth, and Phoenix services those residing in metropolitan WA.

The Phoenix Board is seeking new members from various professional backgrounds who have time available to commit to providing this important community service.

Specifically, we hope to attract interested Board members with backgrounds in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fundraising and/or marketing and public relations
  • Information technology and data
  • Legal and/or social justice advocacy
  • Not-for-profit and/or Governance
  • Academia and/or social justice research
  • Cultural competence
  • Clinical expertise and experience related to trauma

Board members are elected initially for a 2-year term and can be nominated for re-election. Board Members need to have the capacity to devote around 50 hours of volunteer time each year.  This commitment includes attendance at bi-monthly Board meetings and other key events. Board duties include fiduciary responsibilities, the provision of policy advice and strategic input, and reading papers and reports and providing commentary in a timely manner. It is desirable that Board members have a commitment to social justice, gender equity, human rights and reconciliation, and have an interest in understanding the prevalence of child sexual abuse and strategies for prevention and early intervention.

If you are interested in applying for the role of Board member, please contact the Chief Executive Officer, Louise Lamont, to obtain a copy of the selection criteria.

Phone Phoenix on (08) 9443-1910 or email louise.lamont@phoenix.asn.au

Prospective Board Members are required to provide a written response to the selection criteria, and with a current resume attached.  Interviews will be arranged for suitable applicants, and if successful, candidates will then need to apply for a Federal Police Clearance.
