Are you a strategic leader passionate about making a real difference in the lives of people with disability? We are seeking a Chairperson to lead our Board and guide our organisation to new heights.

About us

Riding for the Disabled Association (Tas) is dedicated to providing safe, inclusive and empowering equestrian opportunities for children and adults with disability. With a committed team, a strong volunteer base and a heartfelt mission, we are poised to deepen our impact and extend our reach.

The role – Chairperson of the Board

As Chairperson, you will:

  • Provide leadership of the Board, working closely with the Executive Officer and the stakeholders to shape and advance strategic goals
  • Chair Board meetings, set agendas, drive effective governance and foster a high-performing Board culture
  • Ensure the organisation stays true to its mission, has robust governance frameworks, and meets regulatory, financial and legal requirements
  • Act as ambassador: represent the organisation in the community, with stakeholders, donors and partners
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with RDA Australia and other regional bodies
  • Mentor and support fellow Board members, fostering their engagement and commitment
  • Lead the Board’s forward-looking agenda: growth, innovation, sustainability and enhanced service delivery

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has business or community leadership experience and is confident leading a team of diverse Board members
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking, strong governance understanding and a commitment to excellence
  • Has professional skills and experience within areas such as strategy, legal, governance, finance, marketing, business, human resources, health and safety, community and stakeholder engagement and risk management, among others.
  • Has excellent communication and stakeholder-engagement skills
  • Values inclusion, disability leadership and empowering people with disability
  • Is available for regular Board meetings and willing to invest time in supporting the role of Chair over a 3-year term (or as determined)
  • (Desirable) Has not-for-profit Board experience, or a strong interest in the disability, equestrian or community services sectors
  • Experience in a community or organisational leadership position is desirable but not essential
  • Experience in the equestrian context is desirable but not essential

Eligibility for Board membership:

  • (Requirement to become a) Financial member of the RDAT.
  • Registration to Work with Vulnerable People with NDIS endorsed activity.
  • Completion of the on-line/eLearning NDIS Workers Orientation Module.
  • Completion of the on-line Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Induction training course.
  • Completion of SIA on-line National Integrity Framework training course.
  • Completion of SIA on-line Safeguarding Recruitment & Screening training course.
  • Residing in Tasmania.
