The National Executive Committee (Board) of Scouts Australia Non-Executive Director (Under 30 Years) Role Vacancy
Scouts Australia is a Child Safe organisation. Scouts Australia is inclusive of all, regardless of gender, sexuality, race, religion, or abilities and does not tolerate any form of harm, abuse or neglect.
The National Executive Committee (Board) of Scouts Australia is seeking applications to fill the vacancy of Non-Executive Director – under 30 years of age. Applications from women and those who identify as gender diverse are strongly encouraged.
About Scouts Australia
Scouts Australia, with a legacy spanning over 117 years, is the nation's foremost youth development organisation. Guided by the Scout Promise and Law, Scouting is the values-driven youth leadership program for Australia, in the community and the outdoors. Scouting provides leadership opportunities through a program that is fun, challenging, adventurous and inclusive. We run a youth development program from age 5 to 25 years, with a guiding philosophy of “youth leading, adults supporting”.
With members across Australia and part of a network of 176 national Scout organisations boasting 57 million members globally, Scouting’s impact is profound and far-reaching.
The National Executive Committee
The National Executive Committee (NEC) acts as the board responsible for governance, financial management, strategy and policy for Scouts Australia.
The Role
As a Non-Executive Director, you will contribute to the decision making of the NEC. You will assist in guiding Scouts Australia’s leadership to ensure good governance is in place along with appropriate and contemporary policies, quality planning, and appropriate financial management and risk measures.
The NEC meets once every eight weeks or so, for up to 5 hours per meeting. These meetings are usually held on Saturdays. There is also one face-to-face meeting generally held over the last weekend in November to coincide with our Annual General Meeting.
This is an unpaid volunteer role and the successful applicant must undertake Police and Working with Children Checks prior to appointment.
Note that for this current role, applicants MUST be under the age of 30 years of age at the time of appointment. It is expected the NEC will consider the recommendation at its 14 February 2026 meeting.
Desired Skills
To complement the existing skill set of the NEC, we are hoping to identify individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Marketing;
- Human resources;
- Finance;
- Experience of the Scout youth program;
- Digital systems, and
- External engagement and government relations.
However, if you do not have skills in any of these specific areas, we are sure you could contribute in other areas. To this end, please apply and highlight your skills and experience.
We are actively seeking diverse representation on the NEC. While our broader organisation represents the diversity of the community, our board has yet to reflect this and is something we hope to change. We would welcome applications from people of all genders and from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds. Prior board experience and/or membership with Scouts Australia is not necessary, but candidates must have a strong desire to help guide the direction of Scouting in Australia and have a genuine interest in youth development.
How to Apply
Applications should include a brief cover letter, claims against the selection criteria, and CV to be emailed to Sheree Giffin, Executive Officer, Scouts Australia at sheree.giffin@scouts.com.au. The selection criteria for the U30 NED position are available from the NEC Briefing pack.Applications will close 9 am Monday 5 January 2026.To learn more about Scouts Australia’s work, please visit scouts.com.au.
